Archive Objectives

The Archives aim to preserve and provide access to records of continuing historical value pertaining to St. Patrick’s College, and associated Colleges that amalgamated to form the present day St. Patrick's College. It seeks to provide an historical resource for the greater College community and to preserve the cultural significance of St. Patrick’s College in the wider community.


The Archive Aims
  • To collect and identify records and objects of value as authentic evidence relating to administrative, corporate and intellectual activities of the college.
  • Provide adequate and appropriate conditions for the storage and protection of archival material to ensure conservation for future generations.
  • To organize, document and record the collection in accordance with established archival principles i.e. (Provenance and Original Order)
  • To provide material from the collection for re-unions, College displays, the classroom and College functions.
  • Promote an awareness of the Archives, through publications and displays throughout the College.
  • Create and maintain hard copy and electronic tools to establish intellectual control of the records.

Acquisition Aims

The Archives acquires material by donations, and record transfer from various administrative and functioning bodies throughout the College. All material donated to the archives will become the permanent property of the archives and all copyright will be held by St. Patrick's College. Donations of memorabilia are sought and encouraged by the College archives.

 

The archives will accept historical material pertaining to St. Patrick's College, York Street, (1919 - 1957), St. Patrick's Preparatory College (1958 - 1986) , St. Patrick's College, Prospect Vale campus (1958 - 1983), St. Patrick's College (Co-educational) (1984 -),St. Thomas More's, (1937 -) Sacred Heart (1913 -) and Marian College.(1978 -1983). This may include textual records, (personal papers) photographs, registers, maps, audio visual material, printed materials, artefacts, uniforms and other relevant memorabilia. In order to preserve historical context, donated items should be supported by relevant documentation and donor details.

Material accepted by the archives is given a unique identifying number, and manual and electronic files and registers have been developed. The archives also provide series inventories where possible. Material of cultural significance to the College will be catalogued using Small Museum Catalogue Work Sheets. A magazine database has been created, and all magazines in the collection have been electronically and manually catalogued.
