Tenison

Fr. Julian Tenison Woods worked closely with Mary MacKillop in the foundation of the Sisters of St Joseph. He was parish priest for Penola in the 1860’s when Mary MacKillop started her work among the poor. Tenison Woods was a talented scientist, writer, musician and lecturer as well as clergyman. He set out the laws and regulations of the Order of St Joseph and even designed the early school uniform.

Tenison - Delaney

Archbishop Patrick Delaney (1853-1926) was the third Archbishop of Hobart from 1907-1926. This was a critical time for it was with his support that the Christian Brothers came to Launceston to establish St Patrick’s College in York Street in 1919.

Tenison - Cotham

Fr. James Cotham was an English Benedictine who was the first resident priest in Launceston from 1838 to 1844. These were difficult times and Cotham would have had an enormous area of responsibility.
