Reflecting On Term 3
By Mrs Liz Illingworth, Principal
FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATIONS
Today, as part of Founder's Day, we celebrated our Founders, Julian Tenison Woods, Mary MacKillop, Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle. This year we focused on Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters, and their contribution to the formation of our College. The importance of learning about the lives of our founders and transferring this learning to our own actions, to support the needs of those around us, is an important message for us all. Following our College Value of Social Justice, we focus on where each of us can grow in awareness and respond to the needs of others in a spirit of service. As a community of faith, this is what we are called to do.
“In the face of fear, she chose to be daring,
In the face of anxiety, she chose to trust,
In the face of impossibility, she chose to begin.
What will you choose to do?”
REFLECTING ON TERM 3
I am continually encouraged by the enthusiasm and energy of our young people and staff, by the learning and the many events and activities that occur at the College. Recently we have had many successes in our co-curricular activities. Congratulations to ‘Legacy of Lunatics’ who were successful in winning the state Rock Challenge. Well done to Molly Spurway, Jack Miller, Marshall Richards, Cassie Robottom and Maggie Hodgman on the win and to Molly, Maggie, Matilda and Kate who also made it to the State Final for Acoustic Acts. Our Future Bands Program is alive and thriving under the direction of Mr Alex Wadley.
Congratulations to our SATIS Swimming Team who swam in Hobart last week. St Patrick’s College won the Girls Aggregate Shield and the Girls Co-ed Shield. Congratulations to Jack Cramp who broke the St Patrick’s College Open Boys 50m backstroke record at the SATIS Carnival.
On Wednesday our Senior 1sts Netball Team, captained by Sophie Blackberry, and our Senior Boys Soccer Gold team, captained by Zac Reissig, represented the College in the SATIS State Finals. Congratulations to both teams. Our Netball girls played a fantastic game, going down by one point to Guilford Young College. Well done to our Soccer Boys who are State premiers again, defeating Guilford Young College 2-1. Congratulations also to our Senior Girls Hockey Team, captained by Shelby Stewart, who were leading into the finals Northern Premiers. Our girls were defeated in the State Final by Friends.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE ADVISORY BOARD
School Boards are pivotal within the entire organisational and governance structure of Catholic Education Tasmania. The Advisory Board is a key consultative and advisory body that supports the College Principal in local strategic planning, policy and operational matters. Boards should be open to and inclusive of the school communities they serve and, consequently, should seek a broad membership having varying gifts and skills.
We are currently seeking two new members to join our College Advisory Board for 2025 and are interested in community members with varied experiences and interests. The commitment is six to seven meetings per year, held on Thursday evenings during term time.
If you think that you may be interested in joining our College Advisory Board, please email principal@stpatricks.tas.edu.au for further information regarding the application process.
NOMINATIONS FOR THE CATHOLIC EDUCATION COMMISSION TASMANIA AND STANDING COMMITTEES
The Chair of the Catholic Education Commission Tasmania (CECT) is now calling for nominations for vacancies on the CECT and the CECT Standing Committees for 2025.
If you are interested please email principal@stpatricks.tas.edu.au for further information regarding applications.
There are currently opportunities on the Catholic Identity and Evangelisation Standing Committee and the Resource and Sustainability Standing Committee. A large College representation on these Standing Committees is important. Applications close on Friday 18 October 2024.
HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF TASMANIA’S EDUCATION SYSTEM
Did you know, the Tasmanian Government has established an Independent Review of Tasmania’s Education System? The Review is being undertaken to provide advice to the Tasmanian Government on how to improve our education system over the next 10 years.
The Review wants to hear from every Tasmanian, including children and young people of all ages, families, those working in the education sector and members of the community.
There are multiple ways you can get involved.
1. Respond to the public Consultation Paper;
2. Complete the survey for educators, families and the community;
3. Complete the short survey for students; and/or
4. Specifically for children and young people, submit a creative response to the question
'Imagine yourself at the end of school, what have you learned, what have you achieved and who do you want to be?'
You can answer this question by providing an image of a piece of artwork you have done (with a short explanation), or something written – a short story, a sentence, a paragraph, a poem – the choice is up to you!
Creative submissions, including which year level you are in, can be sent to the Review by email contact@ier.tas.gov.au or posted to GPO Box 104, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 7000 - Attention: Independent Education Review.
Submissions responding to the Consultation Paper must be lodged by Sunday 13 October 2024, and all other consultation opportunities will close on Sunday 27 October 2024.
RETURNING TO TERM 4
We look forward to the return of our students for Term 4. Please remember:
Year 11 and 12 students will return on Monday 14 October
Mr Cullen’s Year 10 Maths Methods Foundation Class will also commence on Monday
The College Canteen will NOT be operating, students will need to bring a packed lunch.
School buses will be operating as usual.
Year 7-10 students will return on Tuesday 15 October
It is essential that our students return with energy and enthusiasm to Term 4 and with a particular focus on attendance, learning and maintaining our College values and expectations on a daily basis. This is particularly important for our Year 11 and 12 students, who have only a short time remaining here at the College.
