Supporting Education - BYOD Program

The Bring Your Own Device program at St Patrick’s College supports our educational goal of enhancing and improving learning outcomes for all students at the College, supporting anytime, anyplace, life-long learning and access to quality eLearning content.

All courses at St Patrick’s College require students to access computing devices and online resources as part of learning activities. There is evidence that the use of personally-owned devices assists learning, is more efficient and is in line with global technology trends in education.

We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world

Technical Specifications

Please refer to the information below to determine the required device and specifications for all Year levels.

All currently owned devices will be supported by the College, provided they meet minimum requirements.

Each student at the College is provided with a free College Google account, which includes Google Drive for storing all work and access to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for word processing, spreadsheets and slide presentations. Students who study subjects that require specialised hardware and software will have access to dedicated desktop machines at the College. All students have access to email, the all-in-one learning management system, Schoolbox, and access to the Saint Mary MacKillop Library catalogue and e-books.

To ease the burden of trying to shop for a suitable device, St Patrick's College has partnered with JB Hi-Fi Education Solutions to deliver a BYOD purchase portal.

On this portal, you will find a range of education-specific products at discounted prices. These products have been specifically chosen as they are the most suitable products for students' use within schools. Typically these products are non-retail products, meaning you won't find them in JB Hi-Fi stores. What sets them apart as education products is their stronger design and build (providing additional protection) as well as extra onsite (at school) warranties and accidental repair options.

Please note, IT support for BYOD devices will be limited to assisting with the connection of the device to the College network. For hardware or software issues, device manufacturers or the point of sale should be consulted. St Patrick's College asks all parents to consider insurance.  Students and parents have full responsibility for the care and use of personal devices, including any repair costs, replacements or any modifications needed to use the device at school.
