Celebrating and Challenging

Mrs Liz Illingworth, Principal

By Mrs Liz Illingworth, Principal

CELEBRATING

Over recent weeks, we have spent time celebrating our 2024 Year 12 cohort.

To commemorate their time at St Patrick’s College, we celebrated through many events including a Footballers v Netballers match, Dress Up Day, the Academic Assembly and Awards, Tutor Group Farewells, House Farewells and a Senior School Assembly where our Year 12s were played out from the Nano Nagle Gym by the Drumline.

The events culminated with the Valete Mass and Celebration Evening, where we presented the Garry Wainwright and Francine Allen Awards. These are extremely prestigious awards voted for by the Year 12 cohort for the best all-round students. Congratulations to our 2024 award recipients - Ethan Curwen and Asha Lowe.

At the Valete Mass, Fr Leonard spoke to our Year 12 students about choosing to do things that make them happy and reminded them not to feel the pressure to do something because that is what is expected of them. This is an important message for our young people as they move into the next phase of their adult journey.

Another highlight of the Valete evening was the response to Mr Jarrod Fawdry's toast to the Year 12 students and to Darcy Noone’s and Ava Gale’s toast to the College. Thanks to both Darcy and Ava for sharing their memories and thoughts.

Overall, it was a great week of celebrating six years of College life.

We are proud of our graduates and look forward to our final celebrations on Thursday 12 December when we come together as a whole College at the Silverdome, for our College Mass and Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at 6:00pm.

CHALLENGING

This time of year is a good time to revisit the expectations we have of students as members of our College community.

It is an expectation that students' mobile phones are in lockers from arrival at the College until departure - this is not a request, it is an expectation. It is an expectation that students are in the correct College uniform each day and follow our expectations around presentation. It is an expectation of the College that students treat others with respect. This is important in all relationships - student to student and student to staff. We will continue to challenge students in regards to all College expectations and will continue to have high expectations of all students until the end of the year.

At this stage of the year, some of our students try to test boundaries as the year moves on. We ask that you continue to support your young person and support the College by ensuring your student is meeting our expectations.

All Policies and Protocols can be viewed through our College website or via Schoolbox.

We look forward to seeing all Year 10 students attending their House Camps in Weeks 7 and 8.

Have a great week.

Mrs Alanna Stretton, Deputy Principal – Learning & Achievement

End of Year Reports

End of Year Reports will be available on Schoolbox from 3:00pm, Wednesday 11 December 2024.

The reports are based on student work throughout the year and align with the appropriate year-level achievement standards. Most students in Years 7-10 will receive an A–E rating, unless students are accessing a modified curriculum.

For Years 10-12 students studying Vocational Education and Training (VET) or Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification (TASC) subjects:

  • VET results will be sent directly from the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

  • TASC results will be sent directly to students from the Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification.

Please also note that Senior School students in Years 10-12 will be able to access their reports on Schoolbox from the end of this year.

For more information on understanding the reports, visit this link: Understanding Reports

Subject Selections

2025 Year 8: 2025 Year 8 parents/guardians and students received their subject selection confirmations by way of email last week. If students wish to make a change to their 2025 subject selections they can see Mrs Anna Davie, Curriculum Director - Middle School before the end of the academic year.

Student Achievements

Layla Chugg, Molly Ross, and Maeve Rickerby were recognised by the Royal Academy of Dance Australia in October as part of the 2024 Joan Burnett OAM Scholarship. These awards celebrate the exceptional talent, artistry, and dedication of young dancers. To reach the finals, the girls competed against ballet dancers from across Tasmania, ultimately performing in their respective ballet grades to secure their awards.

Chelsea Tuck recently participated in the BMX National Championships in October, winning first place in the Para BMX 8-13 and Para BMX 8-13 Girls (Para BMX 8-13) categories.

Congratulations to these students.

Bring Your Own Device to School – JB Hi-Fi Education Purchase Portal

As promoted at the parent information evenings, St Patrick's College is a BYOD school. To assist you, we highly recommend that you purchase from the SPC Purchase Portal via JBHiFi.

The website to access the portal is Education - JB Hi-Fi Education (jbhifi.education) and the school code is STPATS25. A flyer is attached below with these details.

On this portal, you will find a range of education-specific products at discounted prices. These products have been specifically chosen as they are the most suitable products for the use of students within schools. Typically these products are non-retail products, meaning you won't always find them in JB Hi-Fi stores. What sets them apart as education products are their stronger design and build (providing additional protection), as well as extra onsite (at school) warranties and accidental repair options.

Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to order early so that you won’t be disappointed. Whilst JBHiFi has ordered plenty of stock, once this runs out there will be delays with orders.

If you have any questions regarding the BYOD Portal, please contact Mr Matthew McGee, Director of Digital Learning, by email at matthew.mcgee@stpatricks.tas.edu.au.

Year 7 Social

By Matilda Morrison, Student

On 24 October our Year 7 students had an amazing night at the Barrett Gym for the Barbie Meets Neon Summer Social. It was a fun night full of neon lights, glowing decorations, and all things Barbie!

The event ran from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, and the gym was transformed into a bright, neon Barbie paradise. Students showed up in their best neon and Barbie-themed outfits, adding to the fun and colourful vibe.

The night was filled with music from DJ Summer Alexander, who played great tunes that kept everyone dancing. There were also face painting stations, fun games, and plenty of time to hit the dance floor with friends.

There were snacks and drinks available to purchase, plus neon products to buy and wear. Everyone had a blast, and it was a great way to celebrate with friends, make new memories and bond as a year group.

We thank everyone that was involved in making it such a spectacular night!
